A few new deepwater nano gobies from Indonesia have been described in a recent edition of the journalZootaxaIthat are sure to captivate you with their beauty. Here is information on two of the three new gobies described by Richard Winterbottom, Mark Erdmann, and Dita Cahyani. The first specimen, Trimma pajama, is quite exquisite and got its name for its striped pajama-like coloration. T. pajama can be found at Raja Ampat but the report is suggesting this fish may have a larger range and makes its home in shallow water Halimeda macroalgae beds.
Trimma meranyx can be found in much deeper water (55-70m) and is a cryptic goby that is found in the cracks and crevices found in the steep slopes at Raja Ampat, Lembeh Strait and Milne Bay. When we first saw the image, we thought we were looking at a fluoresced image but were shocked to find the brilliant yellow and green main pigmentation is what you see with the naked eye. Add on that the red and white spotted tail, yellow eyes and blue stripes and you have an even more stunning and beautiful fish.
