Tomiyamichthys eyreaeis a brand new species of shrimp-goby again from the hot bed of biodiversity that is the Bird’s Head Peninsula of West Papua, Indonesia. This slender, ground dwelling gobiid is related to the recently describedTomiyamichthys emilyaewhich has long been an aquarium favorite as the magnificent fan shrimp goby.
This new shrimp goby is unique in its appearance with irregular large white blotches and orange bands like a candy cane. InterestinglyTomiyamichthys eyreaehas been photographed inhabiting burrows with the eye-catching Randalli pistol shrimp which is also red and white, making for a color coordinated shrimp & goby pair.
男性Tomiyamichthys eyreaehave been measured up to 37mm or just about 1.5 inches long and lives in the sort of gradually sloping, sand/rubble-bottom that you’d expect for a fish like this, and only 28 meters or just about 91 feet deep. [Aqua]
