There’s a new specimen of a hybrid of multibar and venustus angelfish and this one’s a doozy. Recently collected in the Philippines byRVS Fishworld, this is one of the most beautiful specimens of this very rare cross that we’ve ever seen.
Of the three species in the genusParacentropyge,P. venustaandP. multifasciataare the only know species to hybridize. Of all the angelfish hybrids, this multibar x venusta cross is probably one of the rarest, and one of the most highly sought after.
The reason for this is that thisParacentropygehybridonly appears in aquarium collections about once every two years, and this is the first time that RVS Fishworld has ever gotten one. But like all unusual angelfish hybrids, the expression of the parents’ pattern can vary greatly, and this one is a perfect blend of each.

The scribbling stripes of the multibar angelfish are very distinct, yet the yellow and blue colors of the venustus angelfish also shine through. This is the first time RVS Fishworld has ever caught one, so this indeed one of the rarest angelfish hybrids in the world and it will likely be a long time until we see another one.
