Giesemann looks to have an exciting and brad lineup of new products coming out in 2010 and were were able to get our coral-fragging mitts on information in advance of the public releases later this month at InterZoo 2010. The first piece of German lighting goodness we have is a revamped MATRIXhybrid fixturedubbed the MATRIXplus. This unit appears to have six T5 bulbs with individual reflectors and supplemented with a two rows of pivot-able LEDs to add a shimmer effect to your tank. Following similar design characteristics of the previous MATRIX fixture, the MATRIXplus features the new LED units incorporated in two of the T5 lamp slots. No information on the exact type and color of the LEDs yet but we’ll be sure to get the details when we see the real lights in Nurnberg. With the new MATRIXplus design, individual banks of the T5s appear to be controllable and dimmable withGiesemannG-tron aquarium controller as well as other controllers on the market. We are hoping the LED units are customizable and you are able to place them in the bank/slot of your choosing. In the digitally rendered images, the two LED elements are located off to one end in back-to-back fashion not looking likely to provide a spread of light concentrating it in either the fore or background of your tank depending on how you place it over the tank. If the bars are interchangeable, it really bodes well for either replacing the T5 bulbs entirely or inserting the LED lights in the best possible position for your specific tank. Like the previous iteration of the MATRIX fixture, the MATRIXplus is passively cooled designed to be its own heatsink. No word on sizes and pricing on these puppies but we can assume they will be slightly more expensive than the legacy MATRIX fixture and available in similar sizes. It will be interesting to see this light in person as it is very exciting to see such a venerable aquarium light makerfinallygetting into the LED market.
