The Ecoray LED light from Naxandra Corporation is a pragmatic LED light product which is aimed at delivering a good balance of performance and value. We had our first look at the Ecoray LED during ReefStock way back in March and the development of this LED light has been steadily moving forward ever since. We were sent a review unit of this light and although we haven’t yet thrown this bad boy over corals, our initial unboxing left us impressed at (most of) the build of this unit. The lustrous silver finish would be for naught were it not for the well countersunk screws. With 60 watts of power spread among 30 white and 30 blue LEDs, each equipped with a clear lens, the Ecoray 60 delivers some strong PAR numbers, albeit over a somewhat modest surface area. We were darn impressed to find a shelf-worthy box packaging for the Ecoray 60 LED, we honestly expected to find just another unprinted plain box.
The Pleasant surprises kept a-coming when we opened the box to find some really nice and tight-fitting foam packaging keeping everything in place.
These narrow angle lenses help to focus the light into one, high PAR small shelf of reef space.
The Lustrous finish of the of the Ecoray 60 is actually quite attractive. This model ships with two power cords for independent control of whites and blues.
The buffed edge and well countersunk screws added to the appearance of the fixture.
Where’s the heatsink?
No seriously, where’s the freaking heatsink?
The Ecoray 60 casts a tight beam of light which is great for light loving acros, but unless installed on a really deep tank, it will likely be too focused for anything but light hungry SPS and Faviids.
The Ecoray uses a nice, classic blue shade of LED, the one that typically peaks around 470nm.
The Ecoray 60 uses white LEDs of a somewhat warm coloration which better compliments the color rendition of the standard issue blue LED.

The Ecoray LED 60 uses good lenses, an efficient drive current (1 watt per LED) and it is well sealed and protected from moisture. Although this fixture is only rated for 60 watts, the single fan and lack of a heatsink is a serious concern for operation in warmer environments. The sealed LEDs means you cannot really change out the lenses but the accessible side of the panel means that you could easily glue in a few square rods of aluminum to the back of the LED panel to add some mass and surface area. With an MSRP of $339 and PAR numbers in the neighborhood of 500umol through 24 inches of air, the Ecoray is no slouch in the light output department.
