Tentatively named ‘Xanthichthys kiritimati’, the Christmas Island triggerfish is characterized by a thin string of spots on the dorsal part of the body, and the same blue-face stripes and colorful tail margins. The new Triggerfish from Christmas Island has been popping up sporadically in the aquarium trade, but most of these have been pretty large adult specimens. If you’ve been interested in picking up one of these reef-safe triggerfish but holding out for a smaller specimen, LiveAquaria recently landed a beautifulsmall Christmas Island triggerfishwhich we saw firsthand at the MACNA booth. It is unclear whether the Christmas Island triggerfish has been formally named but if you want a small rare reef safe triggerfish, now’s your chance to pick up something special.
