The GroTech ceramic knife is the first non-metal tool ever offered to reef hobbyists, that we know of. For all the tools we have for the marine and reef aquarium hobby, they’re still all metal, and all susceptible to corrosion from the harsh chemistry provided by saltwater. It’s a wonder then that it took so long to see a ceramic knife in the reef aquarium hobby, even if it is primarily for cutting soft corals for which we more typically use scissors.
Additional uses of Grotech’s ceramic knife would be in a professional aquarium environment for cutting hoses, opening fish bags and aquarium culinary chores. If GroTech’s ceramic cutting knife is really sharp and stays that way, we could see some soft coral farmers, LFS employees and aquarium service professionals getting a lot of use from the $20corrosion-proof ceramic blade.
