As you may recall, last yearwe reported a storyabout a very special pair of White Bonnet clownfish (Amphirpion leucokranos, aka “White Cap”)that made a voyage from Ocean Gallery II to the ORA hatchery in Florida, nearly getting lost in transportation along the way.Since then, this epic pair of fish have been growing and bonding, and ORA has just shared a video of the dynamic duo spawning with the female laying a large clutch of eggs.
We can’t stress how excited we are about these news, and especially for the confirmation a the end of the video announcing that ORA will have offspring of the elusive leucokranos species available in 2014. So what makes these fish stand out among the rest, you ask? Well, this Solomon Islands native is is a very rare, naturally occurring hybrid clownfish “species” which isseldomalmost never seen in the aquarium trade.
Regardless of how one feels about designer clowns, it’s hard to deny that this is a very special pair of fish and we’re super stoked to see what offspring the new year brings!
