France’s Giroptic releases 360cam, the world’s first HD 360-degree video camera and get this — it’s waterproof. The new 360cam allows you to set up real-time streaming video over WiFi, record video, and take still photos all from this small device. The 360cam uses three, 185-degree fish-eye lenses with optical assembly to give you the largest field of view possible. How it works is that each lens is synchronized to simultaneously capture and stitch images in real time inside the camera to produce the 360-degree view.
The 360cam starts out at $249 and is IPX8 rated for immersion up to 10m in water. It would be cool to add one of these to your own aquarium, or even better yet, add them to larger public aquarium displays. The project is off and running at Kickstarter raising nearly $400,000 eclipsing the company’s goal of $150,000. Another cool feature is that it is compatable with virtual reality superstar Oculus Rift so you can pretend like you are swimming in the ocean.
