We have gotten so used to flat 2D images of underwater expeditions, but Ocean Networks Canada is using a revolutionary 3D camera to study the underwater ecology off the coast of British Columbia in the Salish Sea at a point called Saanich Inlet. While this rig is pretty massive, it will only be a matter of time before we expect to see a more portable version.

Maybe we have watched too many pirate movies as wee often think about shipwrecks in the tropical regions, but this expedition recently returned from a trip to one of the most mysterious parts of the ocean, exploring shipwrecks on the bottom of the ocean off San Francisco.
