Somewhere between common soldierfish and pineconefish, there is a group of cute fish in a genus calledOstichthys. This group of deep living and crepuscular species of fish are little known in the aquarium hobby, but they have an appeal all their own.
These bony soldierfish are bonier than regular soldierfish, but not quite as suited up as a spiny and tough pineconfishes. With their large closely spaced eyes, theOstichthysgive a similar goofy look as thePlectrypopscross-eyed soldierfish.
In a new review published on this group, two new species ofOstichthyswere described. BothOstichthys convexusandO. daniela被收集在缅甸附近的印度洋。这两个新物种都具有相同的大眼睛,小尾巴和高鳍外观,这使它们看起来如此独特。[[JOSF]
