Perhaps the real magic of the Kessil H350 is its innovative vapor heatsink. With a traditional heatsink and fan for active cooling, 90 watts of LED in such a small package would be close to six inches in diameter with at least a couple pounds of aluminum weighing down the fixture. The thermal management of this much power packed into such a small package is penchant on the vapor heatsink that Kessil employs. Vapor heatsinks work by taking advantage of the phase changes of a vapor operating in an ideal temperature range, which absorbs and releases heat very quickly and efficiently. Because of the vapor heatsink the Kessil H350 is able to stay much smaller in size.
It is important to note that marketing material for the H350 appears to be aimed at the hydroponics industry with two color blends aimed at vegetative or flowering growth. The H350 Deep Purple has a strong showing in the blue end of the spectrum, balanced with a modicum of white LEDs and it is intended for vegetative growth of plants. The H350 Magenta shifts that spectrum well towards the red end of the spectrum, still with a few different LEDs but this pink-red light is clearly optimized for the dlowering growth stage of plants. WE imagine that some more reef-building LED lights will be announced in the near future but pricing is still MIA. If the Kessil H350 can deliver 3X the intensity at only twice the price of the A150w, about $500, there could be a bright future for the second generation high powered LED spotlight from Kessil.
